About This Game

Lootbox Lyfe is a Metroidvania with Movement Option Progression. Save your species through exploring an interconnected world riddled with platforming obstacles. Unlock new areas as you obtain new movement options.

  • Make use of tight movement skills to blast through the world at top speed.
  • Explore 11 meticulously crafted areas, ranging from a mountainside rebels base, to a garden infested with lootbox-induced fungi trees.
  • Collect hidden coins to purchase lootboxes and unlock hats with special powerups.
  • Customize your looks with different outfits and colors.
  • Explore a non-linear world with many possible paths. You playthrough will almost certainly differ from that of a friend.
  • 5-8 hours of gameplay to beat the game, with even more if you choose to 100% it.
  • Speedrun-specific mode to facilitate the grind to become the best.
  • Many different ways of play with numerous modes.

You play as Liam Cappello, the last Xoobotl in existence. You wake up from a long slumber only to see the world you once loved is in ruins. The culprit of this calamity? Lootboxes.

Shadowleaf Irvine introduced Lootboxes to Liam's species, and soon enough, everyone was addicted to them. Slowly, Xoobotls stopped spending money on items essential to life such as food, and water. It was soon after that bodies started dropping.

Is there a way to bring the species back to its past glory? Or is this world forever in ruins due to Shadowleaf's monopolistic endeavour?

Really awesome game! It's kinda like a mix of a metriodvania and a skill-based platformer (like Celeste of Super Meat Boy). If you are a fan of metriodvanias or platformers I 100% recommend! The controls feel super fluid and satisfying (the videos don't do it justice), and the world is super open and fun to explore.

This was a good game. Completed the game in about 4hours and got 90% completion. It had and relaxing pace and great sense of discovery, great music too. SPOILERS BELOW The only issues i had was the end challenge some jumps had to be almost too perfect and the clones would some times cluster up that your next try was almost impossible. Maybe better with resetting everything like in Celeste when you die instead of having multiple clones in the way.. The other thing was the crystal mechanic, dont know if it was user error but it felt like it was hit or miss sometimes. Very little bugs, some clipping thru walls and getting stuck in the ground but this was easily fix with the reset area option. Hopefully there will be a sequel or that the developer makes a new platform/metroidvania :D

Quick Score: 3/5 Notes: -Banger Soundtrack -Interesting world -Decent visuals -Movement is unique, though a bit clunky at times. -Level design isn't the best or all that interesting, but it is decent enough -Metroidvania, but you are given a very rough map, which makes navigation and looking for collectibles a bit annoying -Difficulty is on the lower end

I will admit, I didn't play this game for long before deciding to refund it. However, if your movement at its most basic, fundamental level drives me up the wall, then piling more things on top of that, however much it may MASK that problem, still doesn't fix the fact that the main mechanic, boiled down to its base, drives me up the wall. Judging from the achievements of the game, it prides itself on the fact that you will die a lot. But this is no Dark Souls 1, my friends, and I suffered 50 deaths in 26 minutes, and not one of those deaths made me laugh and say to myself 'yeah, that was just me being stupid.' Instead, 90% of them came from overshooting my target and falling straight into instant death water. The ball you play as simply doesn't seem to be able to change directions midair half the time, or... something else I can't make out. Whatever the issue might be (assuming it isn't just me being dumb and bad with my hands), the game seems to have been built without a desire to rea...

A violation of pixel graphics, feels bad to play, lacks basic options. First time I ever refunded a game on Steam. Don't want this in my library, lol.

Very amazing game. Simple, addictive and fun. I've played for a few minutes before my two kids try to put me out of the keyboard. A nice one to have, for all ages at a very good launch price.

For some reason, I always overlooked this one. That was my bad.

For a game that is not free, it is unacceptable to have zero help on a walkthrough. A proper map would've been nice. There is no way to track progress in exploration, so you are forced to make your own map if you want to find all endings, for instance. I got lost and stuck in a third area. Yes, I get lost a lot, but usually, in payed games, i don't get totally stuck with no option to resume progress. Controls are shit. Completely unpredictable behavior, you'll spend more time figuring them out then actually playing. Zero help on the internet whatsoever. Literally NOONE plays this, you're on your own, if you want to risk it. Srsly, there are some free games made by school students that show more quality than this. Cut scenes are fun, but you have to make your own map to find all of them. I can't be bothered.

Good game, surprised it has so few reviews. Haven't played much of it but the movement feels good and that platforming is solid which is all that matters to me. Couldn't see a way to make it full screen or even borderless window but I can deal with that, may also just be overlooking it.
