I came back to Mafia after many years thanks to having recently played Mafia: The Old Country. This new entry didn’t impress me much – an average title that will quickly be forgotten – but paradoxically it sparked the urge to finally finish Mafia: Definitive Edition and replay Mafia II. And I have to say, these two games together feel like one big mafia saga. Pros: Czech dubbing and period atmosphere – the iconic voices and authentic setting make both games a unique experience. The city feels alive, especially the opening winter chapters of Mafia II, which have an unforgettable charm. Music – a soundtrack full of classic songs (Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and others) perfectly underscores the action and makes you feel like you’re really living in that era. Well-written story and characters – a gangster drama that has it all: tension, humor, tragedy, and powerful moments. The characters are memorable, and their relationships still work after all these years. Varied mission...

Mafia 2 in general is a very mixed bag of a game: very ambitious, very nostalgic to me personally, but replaying it, you see how poorly its held together. As far as I'm aware, game was in development hell and it shows. So many moments feel like there used to be a more ambitious mechanic, but then they were told "hey, game actually needs to be released eventually" and so it was left half-finished. Remaster is very disappointing as well. I appreciate new graphical effects and better textures, but the problem is that they couldn't update all textures and such, leaving a lot of moments where you see Vito in his nice sharp HD jacket, standing next to pixelated comrades. Mixed bag. But overall, I don't recommend.
Only good thing is that Improved visuals and physics some what, other then that game is just bugs and glitches, so i prefer original it's comes free with this one anyway.
Mafia II: Definitive Edition – A Disappointing Mess After playing Mafia I: Definitive Edition, this feels unplayable. Mafia I was rebuilt from the ground up: amazing graphics, smooth movement, modern combat, and a powerful story that pulled me in instantly. Mafia II DE, on the other hand, is just a lazy reskin of a 2010 game. The graphics are barely improved, the animations are stiff, the combat is outdated, and the story is weak with a boring introduction. It’s not just disappointing — it’s frustrating. A wasted chance to give Mafia II the remake it deserved.
Mafia 2 is a great game, except the definitive edition is a complete disaster, this game manages to be worse, buggier and 20x harder to run. The game looks just about identical to the original even though its 40gb bigger. HOW?!?!?!?
A story of Vito Scaletta, the person who wanted an easy money in his life. Mafia 2 is one of the greatest games that still holds up to this day. I still prefer Tommy over Vito, but he is still a guy who will do everything for his friends, especially Joe Barbaro (not sure he even had any other proper friends through). A military man that came back home and stayed, to join the mobster. DE of Mafia 2 is a complicated thing through, as it have some ups and downs On the up sides of the game: - A very lovely music of 1940-1950s period in US. One of the classic is Mr Sandman and ofcourse could never forget Preise the Lord and Pass the Ammunition (this one can get stuck in your head for a while) - An interesting story about late 40-50s of the 20th century, a very pretty city and memorizable characters - A big vatiery of weapons - Different cars of 40s and 50s that you can try out - Cops react to you breaking the law just like in 1st game - Interesting DLC's that fill up the story (...
Like others have said.... this is a far cry from the Mafia 1 remaster. It looks awful while still running choppy. The gameplay is bad and there are sound issues. The Mafia 1 remaster was a next gen recreation, this looks and plays like an xbox 360 game. Refunded. I'll just try Old country when it goes on sale, this one sucks.
The story itself is great, but unfortunately it is very buggy especially for a "remaster." The gun fights also feel quite dated now. The Mafia 1 remake was a much better experience.
I remember getting a bundle deal for the 3 games and the original mafia 2 and I gotta say...It's not the best experience when you start with such a banger. Mafia 1 definitive edition is an incredible game, but it gave me an expectation that the next 2 games would be of similar quality. And then I come to find that this game is not a remake but a remaster. By all means it is a good remaster given the fact it does improve on a lot of details that the original couldn't do cuz of the hardware, but it is night and day when you just come out of a complete remake from the ground up. The game is fine, a bit buggy but it gives in to the less serious tone the story takes. But for a game that claims to be the "Definitive edition" it does not do much to actually fix the problems the original game had(there are even some things the game did worse than the original)...like the fact that the game was essentially stripped of a lot of features that makes the game honestly feel sort of imcomplete. I mea...
A game from my childhood. The second-best in the series and even after 13 years since I last played it, it still feels incredibly good.
