This game is a fully underrated ,management game. Any management nerd who loves to exercise control over anything other than their actual lives, should give this a crack. I'd say it's on par with Stranded, Alien Dawn in terms of the management mechanics, but the medieval aspect and the level of creativity you can achieve here, is far more superior. The devs are committed to making it the best it can be, adding fun things like capital punishment, so it's definitely going to continue to improve from here on. Once they've introduced sieges , i'm going to be diving straight back into it.

About the Game
When civilization is decimated by rampant plague, a lucky few emerge from the ashes. Help them settle in a dangerous wilderness reclaimed by nature. Build them a home, shape their lives, and defend them from bandits and beasts in a lawless post-calamity world. The Dark Age is yours to rebuild.

From three lost travellers to a thriving walled city, build greatness from desolation. Use 3D terrain tools to create the perfect stronghold, from sprawling multi-storey forts to winding underground caverns. Construct, furnish and decorate your chambers, workshops, chapels, libraries and more, using stone, clay, and other gathered materials.

Each settler is a unique character. Consider Grimbold, for example. As a Swineherd, his Animal Handling is second to none. But his personality is Savage, so he’d make a strong Brawler. He likes nice clothes, his religion is dear to him — and he’s hungry. Satisfy Grimbold’s needs, use his talents, and he’ll be a happy settler — key to a happy settlement.

Build impenetrable defenses and set traps against unrelenting waves of raiders. Research and craft medieval tech, arm your settlers and command them in battle. Tailor your strategy to your villager’s skills, and upgrade them through hunting and combat.

Explore your randomly-generated multi-level map and manipulate it to your will. Terraform the earth and water for construction, design, or military strategy. Build up or dig down, go humble or baronial, and use the modding tools to unearth a whole new level of creative freedom.

I bought this in 2021 and found it promising but incomplete, but that's fine since it's early access and all. Now, 4 years (and 22 hours of gameplay) later? it's still the "same." At the moment, this is barely a colony builder. I mean, you can create cool castles and all, but you can't craft a substantial amount of items, there is ZERO QoL for things like work bills, seed/plant reserves, clothing management and the like. it's kind of frustrating and has some pretty dumb micromanaging. with all that i can still say there are some cool ideas here, for instance negotiating with some invaders to appease them and prevent invasions? that's on my wishlist for rimworld. Still, it is promising, but i feel like the devs have their priorities backwards since a bunch of systems being currently added are not exactly vital. I'll be back in 2 years.
Game is good, would really enjoy more politics and interaction with other kingdom/colony's, and more quests
Are they ever going fix the countless bugs in this game? If it weren't for all the bugs id say its a great game.
If you like the colony-building genre, this game will suck you in- hard. While, it still doesn't have the depth of a game like Rimworld, the addition of a third-dimension and destructible/modifiable terrain scratches that base-building itch like no other game I've played. The game is still early-access at the time of this review, but it's fairly polished already. Instead of fighting jank, you can instead focus on spending your time preparing to fight the inevitable raids that threaten your new colony. Highly recommend.
Somehow manages to combine the graphics of a budget phone app with the performance of Crysis on release day.
After many many many hours of generating maps to find one that was pleasing my eye, a gorgeous looking lake map with an island big enough to build a nice castle on it. Now I start making my dream come true and about 10 hours later I am ready to make a small aesthetic bridge from point of narrow peninsula to my island. Well, my dream start to turn in to a nightmare pretty quick, when I realise that bottom of lake in middle of bridge is one level too deep to build anything, so no bridge support there! Then I try to build far as I can from both beaches and another blowing strike comes when I realise that gap between is 11 spaces, so once again I cannot make even support beam across! My dream is destroyed as it was only way to build aesthetically pleasing bridge from the island. I am at rage and can not, just can NOT recommend this game! Edit. Hour later found dev tool from Nexus and managed to fix the problem with it (drain lake, build support and fill it up again), not on rage anymore,...
+ Building system is fun. + Visuals are decent. + Promising future. - Combat is meh even for the genre. - No interesting events. - Micromanagement almost non-existent or too tedious. - Minor performance issues. - Can't harvest organs. If you've played Colony-Sim a lot before, Going Medieval may not satisfy you cuz the game is too superficial. But if you haven't played the genre before it is a solid starter game. Wait and see the actual release.
Medieval Rimworld-Minecraft. Base building, schedule planning, preparing defenses. Refreshingly, the feeling's consistent and down-to-earth; you're attacked by angry or desperate humans - no monsters or magic. Commendable updates at reasonable intervals.
So much potential for building - you can direct the people, but they also direct themselves with guidance, so you can just focus on building or have a really people-centred game. The colours are beautiful, especially in Autumn. Perfect mix of The Sims and Cities and Skylines - My favourite!!
