A nice little collection, though a bit basic and missing Dracula X which should probably be here and not in the Advance Collection like it is, but whatever. A decent way to "officially" play some amazing classics. Not a lot of frills but it gets the job done.

Not an easy recommend because all of these games have been available and easily played by other means and classic Vanias are very different animals compared to more contemporary offerings. And not all of the games in here are great. Rondo (not included) is where things began to change and obviously SotN (also not included) was where Vania found a new identity. Still, if you're looking for a legitimate way to play these games, all of the features of... other means... are present here - save states, rewind, etc. so it's a great way to explore some tough-as-nails games without having to necessarily deal with all of the frustration you'd get from the original carts. This collection is all of the early Castlevanias with the exception of Haunted Castle which, for some reason, was pushed forward into the GBA collection instead. Why? I don't know. As a trade-off, you get the take-it-or-leave-it Kid Dracula instead. You also have the option of loading the original Japanese ROMs instead, so it'...
It's too basic of a collection. Would not recommend UNLESS is dirty cheap and you want "comfortable" access to all Castlevania old school games. The collection lacks any customization. For example you can't select the Japanese OST for Castlevania 3 while playing US Castlevania 3. Or you can't choose the original difficulty before it was localized in the US. Or maybe some improvements like better walking speed in the gameboy titles. The manuals and additional material are just some scans, nothing of charm was put into this collection. Too bad it doesn't include Symphony of the night either, I guess Konami wants to sell that separately SOMEDAY through steam, who knows when.
I would love the game and give it 5 stars all day if there was a way to turn off the music. I use 2 monitors, I watch tv on 1 and play on the other. I can't find anywhere to adjust the volume.
This game sucks. Castlevania I and III are great classic Nintendo games, but for Castlevania II: Simon's Quest, the game designers obviously were not thinking straight. At first, it seems like a pretty decent game. A little different from the first in the series but, that's okay. Zelda II was different from the first, Mario 2 was different, but they were all good. The first thing that's strikingly different is the fact that ya have to go through towns, talk to people, and buy stuff. I never really minded that, it makes it a little more like an adventure story, and it's kinda like Zelda, so that's okay. But the first problem comes in when it changes from day to night. (A message box appears in-game: "What a horrible night to have a curse.") Why does this need to happen so often? Like, every five minutes? Why does it take so long? Nobody feels like sitting through this every time. How would you like it if you were playin' a game and then every five minutes I came over and paused it, t...
I love castlevaina, so I bought this to support it. however, a windows update broke the games, now they are sped up. this is now a broken product.
Really fun trip down memory lane. I used save states, A LOT, to blow through all of the games in this offering. It was fun seeing the evolution from game to game and from system to system. You can probably bang your head against this for hours upon hours, but 44 hours for me and all achievements is what it took with save states. Too many games to play, and I'm not getting any younger... use save states to experience the content and than move on to the many other games you have never played that are also awesome. Played the whole series on my Steam Deck, first thing I played on the Steam Deck.
no keyboard remapping or glyphs??? otherwise its pretty great, NES emulation is very accurate and the CRT filter is quite sexy
Great collection to have and play without dusting off the old consoles
I have only ever played the Castlevania GBA titles and DS titles before this yet these games were perfect in difficulty. 9/10
