About the Game

A dark corruption scandal in the heart of the New York City's underworld for charismatic detective John Blacksad!

The 50s, New York City: Joe Dunn, owner of a boxing club, is found dead.

Meanwhile, rising star Bobby Yale, due to take to the ring for the most important fight of his career, has mysteriously disappeared.

Sonia Dunn, Joe’s daughter, takes over the gym and must deal with its financial woes. She hires private detective John Blacksad to investigate Yale’s disappearance. This sinister case will take our investigator to the darkest, most dismal depths of New York.

With its anthropomorphic characters and its incredible 1950s feel, BLACKSAD: Under the Skin promises all the eerily dark adventure of a detective novel, just like the eponymous comic book series.

Conduct the investigation in your own way. Make use of your feline senses as you hunt for new clues. Make decisions on behalf of Blacksad and influence the outcome of the case.

I just finished this game and played the entire thing on my steamdeck. It played very well, no graphical issues at all. As for the game, it is one of the greatest story games I have ever played. The voice acting is great, the story actually entertains you and the world and art are phenomenal. If you like story and point and click like games this game is an absolute must play. There is literally nothing wrong with it. You will enjoy the characters and enjoy the choices you get to make while solving the case. I hope more games are made like this, it was perfection.

Despite some iffy movement mechanics and at times too tight quick time events, Blacksad: Under The Skin is a fun noir detective story with convincing twists and turns, complex characters with suspicious motives, fetching art, and a convincing ability to depict John Blacksad as a cunning, insightful investigator whose success really does feel like a product of his wisdom and wits instead of random good fortune. A clever game for anybody who likes a good mystery. Perhaps not so much for people who like a faster paced experience or like more sympathetic people, or who struggle with quick time events. Also, while many choices exist, the game is essentially linear, which may disappoint people who crave a more varied, player-driven plot.

Blacksad: Under the Skin is a slow-burn detective adventure with real personality. You play as John Blacksad, a trenchcoat-wearing cat in 1950s New York, piecing together a murder mystery in a world where every character is an animal. It sounds strange, but the noir tone, smoky jazz soundtrack and stylish art direction make it work beautifully. The core loop is all about investigation: exploring crime scenes, spotting clues, making deductions and choosing how to handle suspects. It’s more brains than action, so don’t expect fast pacing, but when you crack a lead or corner someone with the right evidence, it feels incredibly satisfying. Choices also matter, shaping how characters see you and where the story twists. It’s not the smoothest ride. Animations can be stiff, pacing can drag and the game definitely shows its mid-budget. But the atmosphere, writing and voice acting carry it far. The story itself has teeth: morally messy, full of tension and packed with the kind of tw...

Blacksad: Under the Skin isn’t just a detective game. It’s not just a narrative adventure. It’s a living, breathing noir comic ripped off the page and injected straight into your veins. From the moment John Blacksad steps onto the scene, trench coat flowing, cigarette smoke curling, jazz dripping in the background — you KNOW you’re in for something special. The atmosphere? Peak noir. Every corner of 1950s New York is soaked in style — smoky bars, rain-slick streets, shady boxing clubs, and alleys where secrets rot in the shadows. This game doesn’t just set a mood, it embodies it. You can practically smell the cigarettes and bourbon through the screen. The story? Gripping, tense, heartbreaking. It’s a hardboiled detective mystery with all the twists, betrayals, and gut-punches you’d expect from the genre. But what elevates it is Blacksad himself — stoic, sharp, world-weary, yet still clinging to his own code of honor in a world full of corruption. He’s one of the...

Clunky, cliche, and just not very fun. It seems like they either rushed the development of this game or just didn't put much effort into it. I usually enjoy detective games, especially ones that allow player agency in how the story unfolds. However, Blacksad is just not a good representation of this game-style. I can't even get through the first handful of hours, it's that bad and boring. If you want to play a great detective games, just play Disco Elysium. Skip this one. 2/10 (the only reason it isn't getting a 1 is because the art-style is solid)

I think this is a pretty fun story to play through, there were a few hiccups when it came to controls. But not enough for me to 'Thumbs Down' the game.
