About This Game

Fear & Hunger is a horror dungeon crawler set in the dark and hopeless dungeons of fear and hunger. Four misfortuned adventurers dwell deeper and deeper to the darkness and uncover the secrets this ancient fortress holds inside. The fortress works as an ancient nexus for different planes of existence. The depths are in an eternal turmoil as both old and new gods struggle for power, it’s up to the players to choose their position and stance in all of this.

The game is a hybrid of survival horror and dungeon crawler genres with its influences ranging from Silent Hill to Nethack. There are roguelike elements to the game as well as a heavy foundation of a j-RPG. Fear & Hunger is heavy on atmosphere and ruthless in its difficulty.

 • Oppressive and relentless atmosphere
 • 4 different character classes and many additional characters to recruit
 • Unforgiving and unique gameplay
 • Randomized elements to keep the game fresh with subsequent playthroughs
 • Turn-based Strategic Dismember Combat System
 • Graphical art style mixing pixel art with digital painting
 • Original ambient soundtrack creating the dreary mood

The world of Fear & Hunger is VERY dark. THE GAME IS MEANT ONLY FOR MATURE AUDIENCES! Extreme violence and gore are everyday sights in the dungeons and death is one of the easier ways to go in the game. The game has drug and substance abuse, heavy themes ranging from self-mutilation to sexual violence. None of the themes are taken lightly however. They are all part of the world building and there to create the unique atmosphere where the game measures just how far the player is willing to go in order to survive.

Parts of the dungeon layout, events, loot and enemy placements are randomized with few different variations to keep things fresh with subsequent playthroughs. The game is designed with the classic trial and error formula, so you can expect to start the game over and over again. But as long as you learn from your mistakes, you can quickly find yourself at the deeper levels of the dungeon.

The combat in Fear & Hunger is turn-based akin to classic role-playing games, but with a twist of it’s own. You can target individual limbs of your enemies to dismember them strategically and thus maximize your chances for survival. However, just the same, enemies can also cut off the arms and the legs of your playable characters if you are not careful. You need to prepare well for every encounter if you wish to stay alive. But don’t forget that running away from threats is often the best solution as well. There are many ways for survival in Fear & Hunger - You can find better equipment, learn different blood and love magic, fuse characters into each other, pray different gods, talk your way out of battles, meet new party members, snipe enemies from distance, use traps to disable them… and so on. The Idea is to use what you got at your disposal and be creative with it.

The first half has a great atmosphere and when everything is still fresh and new you can look past a lot of the glaring issues. From there, though, everything from the second half of the game onwards feels like a repetitive chore. I forced myself to get Ending A on my second playthrough and I just don't think it was remotely worth it. I can see the potential and I enjoyed the first half enough to maybe look at the sequel, but considering how many copies have sold of both games, the technical state of this is pretty appalling. Soft-locks, repeated crashes, weapons that aren't labelled correctly so they don't damage ghosts when cursed. Maybe I had a worse experience than most will because I ran into *all* of these and more. Some aspects of the game I loved, enough so that I might give the sequel a try, but this feels like a very rough prototype that did not value my time in the slightest.

Is this game brutal? yes. Is it unforgiving? yes. the games is sick; its nightmare fuel and rampant with sexual violence, dismemberment, betrayal, child sacrifice, religious trauma but the point of it is not to titillate or excite the player instead its horrifying and it evokes feelings of the worst possible outcome in the triggered trauma. This game is not for the faint of heart. That said, as a horror aficionado, I see a game that pushes the boundaries of the horror game genre. Not only are the themes scary but the time paced events and the unforgiving and somewhat unfair game play that is constantly changing depending on your choices, who you pick and honestly at times just blind luck make for a difficult albeit satisfying experience. A lot of this game seems to be inspired by mythology, modern religions, classic horror movies, and even anime. My favorite part of the games are the characters, I see myself in some form in all the 4 playable characters. *Minor Spoilers!!* and based ...

Hello, My name is
whogiveashityk
This game is one of the most immersive game, where you get to adopt a orphan girl who will barely do any damage but won't let you have Enki or Ragnvaldr as your party member because you took the other useless dog that your girlfriend who played this game for 100 hours maybe even more told you to get, saying that him pissing on the floor makes him op af (clarification she did not,I am exaggerating it, she only said it was the easiest way to get a good party member), but it doesn't and now it is giving me a loop of pain and butt bleeding. Then you go ass deep (Pun intended) as possible to then find d'Arce getting hit like she's in the intro of goblin slayer, but since we're the ultimate cahara we kill the ugly looking naked blue goblin and then get d'arce to then give her those stupid scissor shit thing? to then have her miss 20/7 (she rarely hits them) resulting in me, needing to press esc then the yellow door icon, then "to title" ...

Enjoyed: - Extremely internally consistent with its own thematics, including integrating it into gameplay. - "Puzzle" style encounters, all but requiring a certain order of limb targeting to kill an enemy. - Speaking of: Limb targetting. I think it's cool. Did Not Enjoy: - Thematic integration making the game fucking CHEEKS to play, to put it lightly (lots of instant deaths, limb loss is omnipresent, PERMANENT ANAL BLEEDING from being RAPED, can't even save through most of the game without a coinflip that could throw you into combat). - Very much runs into "Too Bleak, Stopped Caring", if you couldn't guess from the above list of 'shit that can just sorta happen to you'. Conclusion: Don't. Unless you're a masochist who's into it. My playtime as of writing is 8.4 hours. Out of that, I got two hours of actually usable gameplay. I respect the fuck out of what it's going for. The style's cool, and I know this was meant as 'a game that wasn't meant to blow up, but here we are'. That doesn...

A true gem that has been sitting in my library for a while now, if you want an extremely difficult but in my opinion fair experience then pick this game up, having spent 6 hours plus in just the first part of the game, trial and error became my friend.. and it should become yours as well. I found myself getting particularly attached to a party member and I just refused to play if they died, endlessly reloading my save until I finally accepted the fact that they were simply too hard to keep alive. It's one of the many feelings this game evokes in a player; please PLEASE try it, it's very cheap and we don't know how long it will be available for with the Visa Mastercard fiasco on games with NSFW content.

Dark souls X Berserk X Undertale with a lot of everything terrifying that exists. Great if you like lore games, or challenging games where you have to figure stuff out yourself. I recommend watching a video about it before playing to know what you're getting into tho.
