Gameplay Mechanics – How the game plays moment-to-moment (movement, controls, unique systems).
This game is a Third Person, adventure platformer collectathon with that classic ps2/n64 feeling. A lot of influence from games like Banjo and Kazooie, Super Mario 64/odyssey and even Crash Bandicoot. The main thing of the game is that your character is able to perform SWAPS. Meaning they can scan a texture/color/properties from an object, and then turn some other object into those properties. Example: you can scan a lava blob and then turn a water lake into a lava lake. This mechanic is very unique I never seen a game implement it like this, this allows for some fun, though easy, puzzles. You can swap a lot of objects at once, which is a nice QOL thing, but sometimes you still need to do a lot of single swaps and the animation can get a bit long if you are a little impatient like me. Your character can also glide and run, using a Zelda-esque stamina wheel. You can also jum...

Got all the achievements! Was an absolute blast would recommend!
This is a nice Banjo-Kazooie style puzzle-platformer, heavy on the puzzles. The platforming moveset is pretty basic but the controls are very tight so it's serviceable, the real draw is the swap mechanic. The swapping leads to some wholly unique puzzle solutions, and after 100%ing the game (in just around 10hrs) I really only had a few instances where the solutions felt un-intuitive. This level of polish is close to the modern B-tier Nintendo platformers, I certainly found this more enjoyable than Yooka-Laylee or Kirby and the Forgotten Land, but nowhere near the quality and content of something like Mario Odyssey or the new Donkey Kong. All in all, if you're on the prowl for a good 3D platformer this will scratch that itch.
hate to give a negative review but this is one is just kind of a mess - the visuals are great, the music is good, the rest of it spirals rapidly from Bad to Awful. It can't decide whether it's a proper platformer or a puzzle game and splits the difference by being fairly bad at both. You can run, jump, sprint, and glide (the latter governed by a completely unnecessary stamina meter), a super basic moveset with no room for getting technical or expressive. It's purely functional point A to point B stuff. Puzzles aren't much better, Ruffy can swap textures or colors around so you can, for example, observe that three apples on a tree are red but one is blue. I kept waiting for it to get more complex, but it never really happened - the only difficulty in puzzles is finding exactly what thing to swap in, and occasionally working out the developer's logic that trumps your own intuition. The charm might be enough to carry it - certainly did many platformers of the era this allegedly harkens ...
Very Fun Game!! its cute and graphics like paper Mario, good music. Well worth The Price!
TL;DR: A nostalgic and witty platformer with pleasing art style. Not only are Paper Mario and Banjo & Kazooie mechanics/references there, there is an actual secret area that has direct signage of them. While the game does suffer from some outdated design choices (cutscene on every collectible pickup... in a collectathon-style game) It is a solid entry and worth it!
The art style is nice. Soundtrack is ok. The gameplay feels to simple at times and at others I feel lost and unsure what to do in a puzzle. The biggest problem is the dialogue is so long at times it is painful to read through. Sometimes the characters are funny but mostly are annoying and long winded. One character starts talking and another shows up to deliver more boring lines.
Great game...didnt beat it yet!i am hooked so far!!!!
Great aesthetics, fun platforming, interesting mechanics. All in all a solid 3D platformer.
Ruffy and the Riverside is super cute and a clear homage to Banjo-Kazooie. A collect-a-thon that could have been released on the N64, but with better graphics. It succeeds, but for me the charm wore off after the 2nd hour and then it became a chore. I have not played Banjo-Kazooie, so I have no attachment to this kind of experience. It’s probably meant for younger players in need of one, or a nostalgic callback for adults who grew up in the era when just being able to navigate a character around a 3D environment was in and of itself an amazing experience. While I like its texture-swapping mechanic, I think Ruffy underused it. There’s nothing wrong with it, as it keeps a casual tone and has a decent story to accompany it, but it’s not for me. Well, nothing wrong with it until the twist at the end. The twist is
lame. It completely negates the story and all the effort Ruffy has put in to saving the town. I can imagine playing this as a preteen and enjoying it, but not an a...
